Coastal 150 Hosts First Candidate Development Academy to Empower Future Leaders

On January 31, 2025, Coastal 150 hosted its first-ever Candidate Development Academy at the Innovation Portal in Mobile. Designed to equip aspiring political candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful campaign, the academy covered essential topics such as compliance, fundraising, marketing, and voter engagement.


The event featured a distinguished lineup of speakers, each bringing valuable expertise to the discussion. Wiley Blankenship, Executive Director of Coastal 150, provided an overview of the political landscape in Coastal Alabama and emphasized the importance of regional advocacy.


"We need strong, informed leaders who understand not only how to campaign effectively but also how to govern with integrity once elected," said Blankenship. "Coastal 150 is committed to helping develop these leaders and ensuring that our region’s voice is heard at every level of government."


Stephen Worley, Executive Vice President at Direct Communications, shared insights on effective communication strategies and the role of media in shaping public perception.


Katelanne Fadalla, a former Campaign Political Director and GOTV/Grassroots Strategist, delved into voter mobilization techniques and the importance of building a strong support network. Don Davis, a media strategist and partner at DSBP, held a discussion on media relations and crafting compelling narratives to connect with voters.


Additional speakers brought unique perspectives to the academy. Dalton Dismukes, a Political and Governmental Affairs Consultant and President of Strategy Management, LLC, provided insights into campaign strategy and legislative affairs. Kirk Mattei, Partner at Helmsing Leach Herlong Newman & Rouse PC, discussed the legal aspects of running for office and navigating campaign compliance. Kristina Spivey, a Campaign Consultant at Spivey Consulting, LLC, offered expertise on campaign management and voter outreach strategies. Cory Adair, Political Advisor and Former Executive Director of the Mississippi GOP and Nevada GOP, shared his experience in high-stakes political operations and party leadership.





Beyond the educational sessions, the academy provided an opportunity for attendees to network with like-minded individuals and industry professionals. The event concluded with a cocktail hour at Braided River Brewery, allowing participants to continue their conversations and build meaningful connections.
